New Green Mark adds an energy-only rating and a tougher efficiency tier

Version 7 of the scheme lets buildings be certified on energy performance alone.

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has launched Version 7 of its Green Mark certification scheme at the opening of International Built Environment Week 2026.

A new standalone BCA Energy Rating lets buildings be certified on energy performance alone. A new SLE70 tier recognises buildings that are 70% more energy efficient than a 2005 baseline, and alternative cooling technologies can count towards it.

Buildings account for more than 20% of Singapore's carbon emissions.

The update was shaped by 26 pilot projects, including Comcentre, SMU's Administration Building and Gardens by the Bay, and by consultations with more than 150 organisations. Owners can now also recertify several similar buildings together.
