Sarawak's Premier is set to hold a special press conference at 3.30 pm today, and he is expected to use it to announce that the state assembly will be dissolved, according to Bernama. The Premier's Office issued a media invitation for the event, which will take place at the Satria Pertiwi Complex in Kuching.

The expected announcement would open the way for a state election. Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is the premier in question. Talk about a dissolution has grown louder in recent days, as many expect an election to be called soon.

Budget passed at final sitting

The assembly met for the last time in its current term last Wednesday, and the Sarawak Budget 2027 was passed at that sitting. The 82-seat assembly's term is due to end in February 2027.

How the last election went

At the previous state election on Dec 18, 2021, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), led by Abang Johari, won 76 of the 82 seats in a landslide. Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) took four seats, and DAP won two.
