Singapore has named 2026 its Year of Climate Adaptation and will draw up its first national adaptation plan, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu announced during the Budget debate.

A Heat Resilience Policy Office has been set up under the ministry, and networks of heat sensors will be expanded.

Nearly 30% of Singapore lies within the reach of extreme storm surges that could hit 5m.

Sea levels could rise by up to 1.15m by 2100, and construction of coastal protection is expected to start in the mid-2030s. The S$50 million SG Eco Fund will be widened to support adaptation projects, and the full plan will follow a public consultation.
