Malaysia's government-backed solar capacity passes 3,250MW

Net metering still makes up most of it, as the newer Solar ATAP and SuRIA Home schemes get going.

Solar capacity installed under Malaysia's government schemes reached 3,254.61MW as of 30 April 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof said.

Net energy metering accounts for 2,903MW and feed-in tariff projects for 345MW. Solar ATAP, which replaced net metering from 1 January 2026, has reached 6.61MW so far.

Households can apply for the SuRIA Home rebate of RM600 per kWac, capped at RM3,000 for a 5kWac system, from a RM150 million allocation. The ministry is also working with state governments to promote shared solar on schools, mosques and community buildings.
